Family Travel Go Admiral Twin Drive-In Movie Theater and a photo of popcorn

The Admiral Twin Drive-In Movie Theater is truly a treasure of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Especially since many drive-in movie theaters have been disappearing throughout the years.

The ability to enjoy a movie from the comfort of your car is quite a unique experience. It almost feels like driving back in time as you pass under the Admiral Twin’s marquee and pull into a parking spot. The two 9 story tall screens are just the right size for an enjoying night at the movies.

Since 1951 the Admiral Twin has been entertaining movie-goers of all ages. It was even used as a set for the 1983 film the Outsiders. Sadly, both of the Admiral Twin’s screens burned down in 2010 but thankfully were rebuilt and improved upon in 2012.

I personally have enjoyed the Admiral Twin throughout my life and was glad to have the opportunity to share the joys and excitement it brought me with my son Cash.

If you find yourself in the Tulsa area the Admiral Twin is a must see, everyone needs to experience the magic of a drive in movie and it is hard to beat a place with so much history and excitement.

Quick Tips for best experience at the Admiral Twin –

1. SNACKS – If you are like us it is hard to go to a movie without some popcorn so no worries, there is no need to bring snacks, they have many delicious food and snack items at their concession stand.

2. AUDIO – Most car sound systems work amazing for the movies. Upon arriving at the Admiral Twin they will let you know what station to tune your radio to for the signal. Few cars have battery issues but thankfully they provide staff members with jumper cables if you need some help. Or you could always bring a boombox to play so you don’t have to worry about your car. P.S. we have had no issues with our cars’ battery during our visits to the Admiral Twin.

(But we always bring a combination jump starter/air compressor with us on all our trips near and far. It’s a good thing to be able to jump your own car, air up tires, have a flashlight, and ports to charge nearly anything.)

Below is the actual one we use. We have used it to jump my wife’s car when she left her lights on all night. It worked great. We have also used it to air up air mattress when camping and traveling.

3. CAR LIGHTS – One great thing about drive-in movies is you don’t have to worry about seeing people on their phones or talking loudly. Only interruptions are cars driving or cars lights. So remember to arrive early and turn off your lights for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

4. WINDOWS – Make sure to wash your car windows so you have a crisp and clean view of the movie. Also, some people bring lawn chairs and blankets for a unique experience, you do not have to stay in your car.

5. ARRIVE EARLY – It can get pretty busy some weekends so why not go early and find a parking spot. Many people arrive early to hang out, play Frisbee and enjoy each others company in the grassy areas surrounding the Admiral Twin’s screens.

You can find the Admiral Twin off of Route 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For hours and pricing visit the Admiral Twin Drive-In Theater’s website and plan your unique movie viewing experience.

  1. So great there really are some American Drive ins left!!! I have fond memories of watching Star Wars as a small child – making out as a teen but at least 15 years since I really saw one in action, I think they’re a great family experience!
