Woolaroc Ranch, Museum and Wildlife Preserve

Woolaroc is fun for the whole family.

At this Ranch, Museum and Wildlife Preserve there is so much to learn, play and do and it is fun for all ages. I had not been there in over 20 years so it was a ton of fun remembering the great things and experiencing them with my family.

I remember going there once with my mom and brother and once on a school field trip. It was fun to see my son enjoying the things I remember experiencing at his age. I was also excited to finally learn what the name Woolaroc came from, Woods, Lakes and Rocks because of the gorgeous Osage Hills of Northeast Oklahoma.

When arriving at Woolaroc they give you an audio CD that explains the history of Woolaroc while you drive through the wildlife seeing amazing and protected wild elk and buffalo scattered across the landscape. I loved how close the animals would walk by our car.

Woolaroc was founded by the oil man Frank Phillips who is known for Phillips 66. He had a very interesting life and the museum shows his life story through exhibits that are both fun and entertaining for the whole family.

The museum also has a vast amount of Native American artifacts and artwork. They have many great large pieces throughout the museum, our favorite being the airplane that hangs from the ceiling and wall of one of the last rooms of the museum. The story behind the airplane is exciting and inspiring you can find out more about the flight that changed history at the museum.

For the kids they have a really fun playground (fun for adults too). They also have a petting zoo where you can get up and personal with many cute animals.

All that is just the tip of the iceberg of what Woolaroc has in store for you. I encourage you to make a road trip out there or make it a least make it a stop on your next road trip, you won’t be disappointed.

Have you visited Woolaroc? What did you think? What museums have you been to that you love and want to share with us?
