The Best Free things to see in Washington DC in one Day with Kids

Washington DC is somewhere you could easily spend a week or two but when you are on a cross country road trip you have to see what you can with the time you have.

Here’s the top free things to see with kids on a one day trip in Washington DC.

The Lincoln Memorial

No stop in DC is complete without a stop at the Lincoln Memorial.

Our boys favorite was the Lincoln memorial. It’s such a historic site to see.

The Washington Monument

An easy walk by the reflection pond from the Lincoln Memorial brings you to the Washington Monument.

Our kids were very excited about the Washington Monument because it’s where Spider-Man saved the day in the movie Spiderman Homecoming.

The Capital

The Capital Building is a beautiful place to visit as well.

You can even take a free tour of the building. We toured it a few years ago it was great.

The White House

Obviously you have to stop by the White House!

It’s such an iconic landmark we always stop by the White House on any trip to DC.

There are great places to view the White House from both the front lawn and back lawn.

War Memorials

The many war memorials are great to see as well.

Our kids enjoyed finding the memorial with our state of Oklahoma on it.

The Smithsonian Museums

A visit to one of Smithsonian Museums is a must when visiting DC. You really need more time but you can at least do a quick view inside of one of the free Smithsonian Museums.

One of the most popular Smithsonian Museums’ is the Museum of National History.

That’s our favorite free things to do with kids in Washington DC.
